2.01.2010: World War Scene

World War Scene is a music festival occurring on April 10th at the Eagles Club in Mandan, ND — The one night event features local bands from around the region and the festival hopes to inspire residents in the area to think more about the music in their own town.

Presented by 701 Crew. Lane Hoffer is the creator/promoter of the forthcoming event this spring.

Hoffer has been in the music industry for awhile. In 2004, he brought bands together to perform and kept it going until 2006. He is starting the shows again [back in November with the "Bring It Together" festival] to give local artists a chance to become a little more established in and around the area. — “The local music scene has its ups and downs, for awhile it was bottoming out,” said Hoffer.

The music festival is intended as a showcase for local music. Fifteen bands from across North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska will share the stage the night of the show. “It will be all independent groups. It has a pretty good spectrum, some heavier and some lighter music -- We want to get people into local shows and show them that there are more things to do in Bismarck,” [Hoffer] continued by saying; “Opening people up to different things they might not be exposed to.”

The show starts at 5PM/ct, and will run until Midnight. Tickets for the show can only be purchased at the door (the night of).

One Bismarck band, If I Ran the Zoo, will be performing at World War Scene. The band has five members who have been together about a year. The members are all in high school. Drummer Anthony Howe describes their music as metal core or death core.

Hoffer has rented the Mandan Eagles Club [which is located on 1400 Collins Ave.], for the show. If I Ran the Zoo has performed there before — and other shows have taken place there in the past.

“It is really cool what Lane [Hoffer] is doing. He’s giving a place for people to hang out and it’s awesome that he brings in high quality bands,” Howe said.

Other bands set to perform during the night of World War Scene are My, My Misfire, Orwell, Blue Ox, Give to the Winds, Ambassador Gun, Lost Apparitions, The Suit, Righteous Vendetta, Sleep Study, Vendetta Spoken, From Above, Crucial End, You Can’t Outrun Ghosts and It Came From the Sea.

Tickets for World War Scene are $10. More information about the the show can be found online by clicking here — and a preview of the show’s music can be heard by visiting the official page for If I Ran the Zoo, by clicking here.
